Frequently Asked Questions regarding Wrist Fractures:

  1. Q: How long will I need to wear a plaster cast after surgery?
A: Once your wrist has been surgically stabilised you usually will not need to wear a plaster cast at all. Instead, with the wrist now stabilised you will be directed into an enhanced rehabilitation protocol where early movement of the joint will be encouraged. Patients will usually receive a removable splint to support the wrist when you’re resting but the emphasis will otherwise be on allowing early movement as it is now recognised that early movement helps to avoid stiffness and improve functional results.
