Our Fees
We are a boutique specialist practice. Our fees are guided by the Australia Medical Association (AMA) recommended fee schedule. You will be provided with detailed Informed Financial Consent information before scheduling any surgery so that you can make an informed decision.
For most procedures there will be an out of pocket difference between our surgical fee and what is covered by Medicare and your health insurance provider. The reason for this is that Medicare Rebates have essentially been frozen for decades (despite forever escalating overheads to run a private practice) and for-profit insurance companies have also restricted their fee schedules.
The AMA schedule is a projection of what the Medicare benefit rebate would have been if the government had adjusted the Medicare schedule for inflation..
Our helpful staff will assist you in navigating what can be a complex process. These fee explanations can include:
- Consulting Fee
- Surgical Fee: Surgeon, Anaesthetist, Surgical Assistant
- Ancillary services such as Pathology, Radiology and Pharmacy
Mr Freedman's consultation fees are:
- New consultation fee is $300
- Review consultation fee is $170
We are able to reduce fees for pensioners, healthcare card holders and others in need of financial assistance
Mr Freedman believes that no patient should be denied necessary treatment over financial issues. If you are experiencing financial hardship please don’t feel ashamed or afraid to raise this with us. Mr Freedman is compassionate and will endeavour to reduce fees so that you can access the care you need.
Uninsured patients
Mr. Freedman is available to see uninsured patients in our private clinics for consultation and management advice. Many orthopaedic issues can be effectively managed with conservative (non-operative) treatments and do not require surgery.
For patients wishing to self-fund surgery, Mr Freedman can organise this at a private hospital for you. Mr Freedman has negotiated a self-pay package, whereby self-funding patients pay a fixed price for surgery and are protected against unforeseen expenses in the event of complications.
We offer Self Pay Surgery
SelfPay Surgery has been developed to enable uninsured patients to access surgery in a private hospital. By opting for private surgery, you can bypass the lengthy waiting lists typical of the public hospital system, will avoid public hospitals clinics and shared ward rooms and are assured that you will be treated by a consultant orthopaedic surgeon rather than a public hospital trainee.
Work Cover and TAC Patients
Mr. Freedman welcomes WorkCover and TAC patients who have sustained orthopaedic injuries or joint problems during employment or as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
If your care falls under WorkCover, TAC, or other third-party insurance, receiving treatment from Mr. Freedman involves three straightforward steps:
- Obtain a referral from your GP, hospital emergency doctor, or another medical doctor.
- Call to book an appointment.
- Notify your case manager, as they need to approve funding for any treatments.
If this is a new claim, please contact your employer to lodge a WorkCover claim or the TAC (Transport Accident Commission) to start a claim.
Billing
Please note that the cost of your consultation will be billed directly to you and must be settled on the day of your appointment. You will be able to claim a partial refund from your third-party insurer. Any subsequent surgery fees will be billed directly to WorkCover, TAC, or the third-party insurer (pending approval for surgery), and you will not incur any out-of-pocket expenses for surgery.
