Orthopaedic Surgery Technology

Cutting-edge surgical innovations for improved outcomes

Mr Freedman strives to stay up to date with the latest developments in technique and technology to provide the best care to his patients. Examples of this are his incorporation of Augmented Reality platforms, Robotics and 3D-printing into his practice.

NextAR Augmented Reality

NextAR Knee is an innovative augmented reality technology designed for total knee replacement. It uses real-time, patient-specific data, specialised tools, software, a live tracking system, and augmented reality glasses. This technology provides Mr Freedman with up-to-the-minute information and real-time 3D evaluations of collateral ligament tension for accurate ligament balancing during surgery, enabling him to make precise adjustments based on the patient’s unique anatomy and biomechanics.

This allows Mr Freedman to provide a personalised surgical experience, leading more precise implant placement and faster recovery forvpatients.

Robotic Knee Replacement

ApolloKnee is a state-of-the-art robotic-assisted technology for total knee replacements. The ApolloKnee’s key features include a robotic knee balancing system, which ensures precise alignment and balance for more natural knee movement, and an advanced cutting system, which allows Mr Freedman to make more accurate bone cuts.

The ApolloKnee’s gesture-controlled workflow assists Mr Freedman during procedures by allowing him to work more efficiently and with greater control, while its smart planning system adapts to each patient’s unique knee alignment needs, allowing for more personalised procedures.

MyHip 3D Hip Planner

Starting from a CT scan, My Hip Planner it creates a precise 3D model of the patient’s anatomy, helping Mr Freedman make accurate, patient-centric decisions.

Simulations of six common daily activities enhance post-operative analysis, predicting the patient’s final range of motion.

During surgery, the MyHip Verifier software provides real-time assessments of leg length, offset, and cup angles for precise outcomes. Through use of these tools, Mr Freedman can provide patients with personalised, accurate surgical planning and improved implant position.

Robotic Hip Assistant

Mr Freedman uses Gaston, a pneumatic powered Robot Assistant, designed to assist surgeons during hip and knee procedures. The robot assistant maintains instruments in precise position. This improves the surgical workflow, improves exposure and helps to minimise soft tissue injury. This enhances Mr Freedman’s ability to perform maximally efficient surgery and to achieve reproducible patient outcomes.

3D Printing

This cutting-edge technology employs the revolutionary powder technology method, where high-quality metal powders are melted with an electronic or laser beam, then precisely layered and fused together. As the resulting implant is monolithic (made from a single material), it provides better strength, durability, and biocompatibility. This advanced technique allows for the production of complex custom-designed implants tailored specifically to each patient’s unique anatomy and also gives the implant a rougher surface, which enhances its stability and speeds up the process of its integration into existing bone structures. This not only ensures a better fit but also significantly reduces the risks associated with traditional implants.
